STATE-APPROVED BOARD TRAINING

The North Hills Charter School and the Charter School Resource Center are pleased to host our state-approved board training in four metropolitan areas this summer, at no cost to charter school board members and one administrator per charter. Twelve hours of state-mandated board training will be offered in each city - four/five hours late on Friday afternoon/evening and seven/eight hours on Saturday. See attached registration form and agendas for four cities. Registration is required -- no walk-ins.

Many charter school board members and administrators attended up to six hours of board training at the charter school conference in Austin on May 5-6. (Those topics with an * on the following pages were offered at the conference.) Board members and/or administrators do not have to repeat any of the board training that they received at the charter school conference. Each charter that had an attendee participating in this board training received one copy of PACE I (Governance Manual) and PACE II (Board Policy Manual). Please bring those manuals with you to the remainder of the board training. A charter, that has not yet received a set of the manuals, will receive one set per charter at the training.

READING WORKSHOPS TEA's Office of Statewide Initiatives is pleased to host two days of Professional Development Training for all K-2 charter school teachers at no cost. The Center for Academic and Reading Skills (CARS) will provide this training for TEA. Registration is required by calling Laura Powell at 713-500-3727. See attached flyer for dates and locations in three different cities.

IMPORTANT NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND FEDERAL FUNDING REMINDER Charter schools must submit their Charter School Data Request Form for Federal Funding on or before the July 15, 2003 deadline date to the Division of Student Support Programs of the Texas Education Agency if they wish to be included in the Agency's determination of a charter school's eligibility and planning amounts for the following NCLB federal programs in the upcoming 2003-2004 school year:

  • Title I, Part A - Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Educational Agencies
  • Title II, Part A - Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund
  • Title II, Part D - Enhancing Education Through Technology
  • Title IV, Part A - Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities
  • Title V, Part A - Innovative Programs

Charter schools that miss the July 15, 2003 deadline date for Charter School Data Request Form for Federal Funding are automatically ineligible for NCLB funding in the 2003-2004 school year. No exceptions to the deadline date are granted.

This form is not available on the Agency web-site. To request an additional copy of this form (original was sent by certified mail on April 18th, 2003), e-mail: dhernan1@tea.state.tx.us and provide the name of your charter school and county district number. A charter school may also e-mail this address if they would like to know if the Division of Student Support Programs is in receipt of the charter school's Charter School Data Request Form for Federal Funding.
