Gardens Hotel has informed us they have completely sold out of sleeping
rooms for the conference but have located three near-by hotels that have
sleeping rooms available. When you call to make your reservations, please
inform these hotels that you are attending the Charter School Conference.
- Holiday Inn 409-740-3581
- Hilton 800-475-3386
HOTEL ROOM CANCELLATION DEADLINE The
Resource Center has signed a contract with the Moody Gardens Hotel guaranteeing
that every sleeping room in their hotel will be occupied by charter school
conference attendees. If you need to cancel a room reservation please
call the Moody Gardens Hotel before April 1st. This will enable
other conference attendees the opportunity to move from an overflow hotel
into the Moody Gardens Hotel as well as preventing the Resource Center
from having to pay for your cancelled room. Thank you.

ACE WORKSHOP: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
Student Attendance Accounting, Alternative Accountability Reporting, and
Repair and Renovation Grant information will be discussed at the Association
of Charter Educators workshop on Tuesday, March 5, 2002. The workshop
will be at La Escuela de las Americas Charter School in San Antonio from
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. See attached memo.
Please bring your Student Attendance Accounting Handbook with you to
the meeting.
NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND As you are aware,
the No Child Left Behind Act, signed by President Bush on January 8, 2002,
will cause manychanges in education, including new requirements for teacher
qualifications. The agency has received several questions from charter
schools on this matter. You should have received a letter from the Commissioner,
dated February 21, 2002, stating that charter school laws in each state
will still govern teacher qualifications for charter schools. If you have
further questions, please call the Charter Schools Division at 512-463-9575.
