CHARTER SCHOOL CONFERENCE

OVERFLOW HOTELS FOR THE CONFERENCE Moody Gardens Hotel has informed us they have completely sold out of sleeping rooms for the conference but have located three near-by hotels that have sleeping rooms available. REPAIR AND RENOVATION GRANT RECIPIENTS All charters who are receiving Repair and Renovation Grants must use the Davis-Bacon Standard Form 308-Request for Wage Determination and Response to Request. Go to the Davis-Bacon website at www.dol.gov/dol/esa/public/programs/dbra to retrieve this form.

COMMISSIONER'S RULES The majority of the proposed new Commissioner's Rules are on the Texas Register website at www.lamb.sos.state.tx.us/texreg/index.html. The TEA Charter School Division and Legal Staff will host a stakeholders meeting on this portion of the proposed rules on Thursday, February 28, 2002 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. in Room 1-104 of the William B. Travis Building in Austin. Charter schools are encouraged to submit their comments on the proposed rules in writing to Susan Barnes (Fax: 512-463-9732; sbarnes@tea.state.tx.us) or Jim Thompson (Fax: 512-463-3662; jthomps@tea.state.tx.us) prior to February 28th if possible. Comment period on the rules ends on March 17, 2002.

ACE WORKSHOP: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT Student Attendance Accounting, Alternative Accountability Reporting, and Repair and Renovation Grant information will be discussed at the Association of Charter Educators (ACE) workshop on Tuesday, March 5, 2002. The workshop will be at La Escuela de las Americas Charter School in San Antonio from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. See attached.

CONTRACTING FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO REAL ESTATE All charters that are planning to contract for Improvements to Real Estate may want to get their board approval to use the guidelines in Chapter 44, rather than the bidding procedures set forth in Subchapter B, Chapter 271, Texas Local Government Code. ACE has prepared a letter of explanation and a sample Amendment Request Form. See attached.
