DEPOSITORY CONTRACT

DEPOSITORY CONTRACT House Bill 6 requires that charter schools submit a copy of their depository contract with their bank information to TEA. Charter schools are not required to use the contract form prescribed for traditional school districts. Although the legislature has not required the use of a specific contract form, the Association of Charter Educators has prepared a model form (attached) for your convenience. Charter schools may submit this contract to TEA, Division of School Financial Audits, Charter Schools Audits Section, 1701 N. Congress, Austin, TX 78701.

6TH ANNUAL BALANCING EDUCATION & JUVENILE JUSTICE CONFERENCE will be at the Crown Plaza Medical Center Hotel in Houston on October 21 - 23, 2001. The conference is an excellent opportunity for educators working with students in the juvenile system to learn instructional strategies. There will be sessions about special education law, when behavior is a crime, disciplining special education students, etc. The conference registration fee is $85 and rooms can be reserved at the Crowne Plaza for $70 if reserved before September 30. SIXTH ANNUAL TEXAS CHARTER SCHOOL CONFERENCE will be held on Monday and Tuesday, April 29 & 30, 2002 at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston. We are pleased to announce that Commissioner Jim Nelson will once again be a keynote speaker. Watch the Friday Fax® for details.

BOARD TRAINING The Resource Center has been working with one of our donors since April planning a Board Training project that will fulfill HB6 requirements. The new Commissioner's Rules will be complete on January 1, 2002 and we will offer Charter School Board Training in Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi/Valley beginning in January, 2002. We are working with several donors and anticipate we will provide this training free of charge. CHARTER SCHOOL ORIENTATION The Division of Charter Schools at TEA is hosting a Charter School Orientation on October 22 & 23, 2001. Representatives from many divisions at the agency will make presentations that pertain to both new charter schools and also to established charters with new staff members, or with existing staff who want a refresher in some areas. You may bring as many staff members as you like. There is no charge for the orientation. A tentative agenda will appear in the Friday Fax® on October 5. The sessions will run from 10:00 - 5:00 on October 22 and from 8:00 - 3:30 on October 23. Please RSVP to the charter school division at 512-463-9575.
