CHARTER SCHOOL CONFERENCE

The Sixth Annual Texas Charter School Conference will be held on Monday and Tuesday, April 29 & 30, 2002 at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston. Watch the Friday Fax for details.

BOARD TRAINING The Resource Center has been working with one of our donors since April planning a Board Training project that will fulfill the HB6 requirements. The new Commissioner's Rules will be complete on January 1, 2002 and we are pleased to announce we will offer Charter School Board Training in Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi/Valley beginning on January 19, 2002. We are working with several donors and anticipate we will provide this training free of charge. ALTERNATIVE ACCOUNTABILITY DEADLINE CHANGE The deadline for registering to participate in the Alternative Accountability System has been changed to Friday, October 12, 2001. The alternative accountability procedures are designed to provide more flexibility for schools that serve non-traditional populations. Schools must register to participate each year.

SCHOOL RENOVATION & REPAIR, IDEA-B, AND TECHNOLOGY Three separate competitive grant opportunities are available under Public Law 106-554. The following attachment provided by TEA provides contact information and defines the activities under the IDEA-B grant. Please contact the appropriate program manager for further clarification.

CALENDAR OF DEADLINES FOR SPECIAL POPULATIONS Click here to see a calendar for charters that lists the deadlines associated with the federal programs housed in the TEA Office for the Education of Special Populations. Included in the calendar are Special Education, Student Support, Migrant Education, and Emergency Immigrant Education Programs.

STUDENT TRANSFER FORM ACC-041BR01 If you have not yet completed Student Transfer Form ACC-041BR01 that was due earlier this month, you should receive a letter next week from the Equal Educational Opportunity Unit at TEA. The letter will explain the immediate action you can take to come into compliance with Court Order/Civil Action (CA) 5281.
