The Fourth Annual Texas Charter School Conference will be April 9 - 10, 2001 at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin. We expect approximately 700 attendees, so please call 512-343-2626 to make your hotel room reservations as soon as possible. To receive the $109 room rate, let them know you are with the Charter School Conference. Please fill out the attached registration form and send back to the Resource Center with your payment.
CURRENT ENROLLMENT We are updating our Operational State-Approved Charter School Directory and about half of the charters have already provided us with new information. Please e-mail, oneillp@texas.net, or call the Resource Center, 210-348-7890, with updates concerning your school's current enrollment (as of January 2001) and any changes to your address, phone and fax number, and current grade levels.
NOTE FROM LAURA MIDDLETON Being a part of the Resource Center team has allowed me to work with many wonderful Texas charter schools and it has been very invigorating to see the difference being made in the lives of children! This work has reconfirmed my desire to again join the ranks as a charter school director. As of February 1, 2001 I will become the Executive Director at AW Brown Fellowship Charter School. Thank you to the CSRCT staff and all our charter schools for a great learning experience!
NEW DATABASE FOR CHARTERS The Charter Schools Division at TEA is in the process of creating a new database for charter schools. If you have not already received a fax with school information for your review, you should receive one by early next week. Please review and return this form promptly. This database should alleviate some of the problems you have had in the past and provide the proper addresses and phone numbers that can be shared with individuals who contact the agency seeking new schools for their children. Please return the forms no later than January 25, 2001. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Kirsten Christophersen or Mary Perry at (512) 463-9575.
21st CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER GRANTS Under the provisions of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program, rural or inner-city public schools or consortia of such schools are eligible to receive a Federal grant. Charter schools are eligible to apply directly for these grants through the U. S. Department of Education. Contact Julie Coplin at 202-260-3828 for information.
