To the First Generation Charter Schools:

Subject: Six-Weeks Attendance Reports

Beginning with the 2000-2001 school year, first generation charter schools will no longer be required to submit attendance reports at the end of every six weeks. The charter school's state aid payments throughout the year will be based on end-of-year 1999-2000 ADA unless the charter school requests otherwise.

Please keep in mind that the amount of state aid earned for the year will still be based on 2000-2001 ADA and that the determination of over/underpayments will still be made at the end of the year. If the charter school's ADA during the year is running significantly more than its 1999-2000 ADA, six-weeks reports can still be submitted so that funding can be increased during the year. If the charter school's ADA during the year is running significantly less than its 1999-2000 ADA, the charter school may wish to submit six-weeks reports so that funding can be adjusted during the year in order to avoid a substantial overpayment at the end of the year.

The suspension of the six-weeks reports for this coming year is being done on a trial basis. If substantial overpayments occur at the end of the 2000-2001 school year, we will once again require the reports to be submitted.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact Nora Rainey or Bill Fojtasek at (512) 463-9238.

Sincerely,
Omar Garcia, Senior Director
