THE LAST ACADEMIC/ACCOUNTABILITY ACADEMY will be hosted by the Resource Center in Dallas at Focus Learning Academy Charter. Map is attached. Please RSVP to the Resource Center at 210-348-7890 as soon as possible. Workshops and lunches will be provided at no cost to the charters.
ORIENTATION FOR ALL NEW CHARTERS All new state-approved charters that will be operational in August or September 2000 are required to attend the TEA Second Day Orientation in Austin on July 20, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For additional information call the TEA Charter School Division at 512-463-9575. See attached letter from Dr. Susan Barnes and meeting agenda.

ALL FIRST GENERATION CHARTERS All First Generation Charters will receive a Charter Renewal site visit by TEA between September - December, 2000 to gather information about each charter's educational plan and to verify compliance with the charter.

FUNDING FROM GOVERNMENT AGENCIES Information about funding 
from more than 100 sources in different government agencies (in areas such as Food, Health and Safety, Learning, Recreation, Research, and Technology) can be found on the web at www.afterschool.gov/feddollar.html. Thanks to Lizzette Gonzalez from the Governor's office for this funding information.

Training will be conducted on the subjects listed below. On Monday, two file boxes with 116 colored-coded indicator folders will be available for each charter school as well as sample documentation. The same schedule will be followed at every location. Workshops and lunch are provided by the Resource Center for Charter Schools at no cost to the charters. When you RSVP please indicate which workshops you and your teachers will attend.

RE: Charter School Orientation

You are invited to a charter school orientation to be held on July 20, 2000 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  The orientation will be held at the William B. Travis Building (Texas Education Agency) located at 1701 North Congress Avenue in room 1-104.  Agency staff will present information regarding reading, dyslexia, accelerated instruction, school transportation, prekindergarten, bilingual education, English as a second language, federal title funding programs, GED, accountability/evaluations, alternative accountability, graduation requirements, EEO compliance and others.

That afternoon Division of Charter School staff will meet with you to review the final documentation of the items described in your application.  The review is required (see page 6 of the RFA) prior to the beginning of your opening.  A checklist will be provided to assist you in preparation of this review.  Appointments for the afternoon will be scheduled on a first come basis.  Please call Sheryl Walton (512-463-9575) to arrange for an appointment.  An agenda for the meeting is enclosed.
