ACADEMIC/ACCOUNTABILITY ACADEMIES
will be hosted by the Resource Center in San Antonio, Houston and Dallas for all Texas charter schools. Topics will include Compliance Training, Reading and Math Curriculum Strategies, and Strategies for At-Risk Students. See attached for times, dates and agendas. TIF GRANTS Letters of Intent to the Technology Infrastructure Board for the $50,000 - $75,000 noncompetitive technology grants in the PS8 cycle are due in the TIF office in Austin on June 19th. Faxed copies will not be accepted. Letters should be sent by certified mail, Return Receipt Requested. Final application is due July 17th. AMERICAN YOUTHWORKS CHARTER SCHOOL will be holding a Service Learning Workshop on June 5th, June 12th, and June 19th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the American YouthWorks Charter School, 216 E. 4th Street, Austin. The workshop will include an overview of Service Learning, how to create Service Learning Curriculum, and visitation of classes to see Service Learning projects underway. We are pleased to announce that we are working very closely with staff in the Education Service Centers (ESC)'s listed below who are actively assisting charters in preparation for TEA's Initial Onsite visits that begin in August. We hope to hear from other ESC's that may be providing similar services to charters in their region.
- Region 2 is assisting their charters with Initial Onsite Visits. They have purchased Special Ed Operation Guideline books for each charter and are providing coordinated assistance at no cost to the charters. In addition, Linda Thomas, 361-561-8617, has been assigned as the contact person for Region 2.
- Region 10 is assisting their charters with Initial Onsite Visit Special Education compliance issues. They have purchased Special Ed Operation Guideline books for each charter and are providing a consultant, Carlene Marak (972-495-8617), at no cost to the charters, to assist with Special Ed compliance issues.
- Region 13 is scheduling Special Ed on-site visits with Rex Shipp (512-919-5494) for all second and third year Austin charters in preparation for the TEA Initial Onsite visits that will be the week of November 13 or December 11, 2000. Rex is looking forward to meeting the charters at the CSRCT Compliance Training in San Antonio on Monday, June 26th.
- Region 20 has scheduled a Texas Charter Administrator workshop on July 19-20 in San Antonio. See attached.
- Region 11 has scheduled a Business Services and Software Demonstration Workshop on June 9th to assist charters in performing the day-to-day business office operations. Call Michelle Millsap at 817-740-7604.

TEXAS CHARTER ADMINISTRATOR ACADEMY, offered by the system of Education Service Centers, will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, July 19 & 20, 2000 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the UTSA Downtown Campus, 501 W. Durango, in San Antonio. The fee is $100 per person. Topics to be discussed include Curriculum Planning and Development, Policies and Governance, PEIMS, Values and Ethics of Leadership, Human Resource Management and Instructional Leadership. Training will be conducted on the subjects listed below. On Monday, two file boxes with 116 colored-coded indicator folders will be available for each charter school as well as sample documentation. The same schedule will be followed at every location. Workshops and lunch are provided by the Resource Center for Charter Schools at no cost to the charters.
