ACADEMIC/ACCOUNTABILITY ACADEMIES will be hosted by the Resource Center this summer in San Antonio, Houston and Dallas for all Texas charter schools. Topics will include DEC visits, TAAS, and Strategies for At-Risk Students. See attached for times, dates and agendas. Please RSVP to the Resource Center at 210-348-7890. TEXAS CHARTER ADMINISTRATOR ACADEMY, offered by the system of Education Service Centers, will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, July 19 & 20, 2000 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the UTSA Downtown Campus, 501 W. Durango, in San Antonio. The fee is $100 per person. Topics to be discussed include Curriculum Planning and Development, Policies and Governance, PEIMS, Values and Ethics of Leadership, Human Resource Management and Instructional Leadership. Training will be conducted on the subjects listed below. The same schedule will be followed at every location. Workshops and lunch are provided by the Resource Center for Charter Schools at no cost to the charters. When you RSVP please indicate which workshops you and your teachers will attend.

    • Compliance Training - Charter School Initial On-Site Visit (Formerly DEC training)
      (Administrators/Lead Teachers)
      A file box with 98 colored-coded indicator folders will be available for each charter school as well as sample documentation.

  • Tuesday
    • Reading Strategies for Student Success - Elementary
    • Reading Strategies for Student Success - High School
      (These are two separate workshops) (Test taking strategies included)

  • Wednesday
    • Math Strategies for Student Success - Grades 1-4 - Day 1
    • Math Strategies for Student Success - Grades 5-8 - Day 1
      (These have been extended to a two day workshop. Day 2 will include a make/take session.)
    • Math Strategies for Student Success - High School

To receive the $109 room rate, let them know you are with the Charter School Conference. If you use your credit card to make your reservation, your card will not be billed until you occupy the room in April.

    Many of you have called requesting the conference dates because you are planning your 2000-2001 school calendars. You may want to schedule staff development days on April 9-10 so many of your teachers will be able to attend.
