TEXAS CHARTER SCHOOL CONFERENCE

Monday and Tuesday, April 9th & 10th, 2001

Back by popular demand, the Commissioner of Education, Jim Nelson, is confirmed as one of our keynote speakers for the 2001 conference. Many of you have called requesting the conference dates because you are planning your 2000-2001 school calendars. You may want to consider scheduling staff development days on April 9-10 so many of your teachers will be able to attend.

Please call 512-343-2626 to make your room reservations. To receive the $109 room rate, please let them know you are with the Charter School Conference. If you use your credit card to make your reservation, your card will not be billed until you occupy the room in April.

Approximate times will be 9:00-5:00 both days with an evening event on Monday, April 9th. The conference will feature a number of national speakers, many informative breakout sessions, and an extensive vendor fair. We expect approximately 700 attendees, so please make your room reservations as soon as possible. If you have questions, please call Sally Friedli at the Resource Center at 210-348-7890.

The following charters have informed us of celebrations scheduled during National Charter School Week, May 1-5, 2000.

  1. Rapoport Charter and Waco Charter have planned a variety of events at the Rapoport campus on May 2, 2000 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. For additional information contact Nancy Grayson at 254-799-4191.
  2. Pegasus Charter School is hosting a Metroplex Charter School Awareness event on May 3, 2000, 4:00 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. at the Non-Profit Center in Dallas. Please RSVP to reserve a table for your school by April 17 to Rick Lannen at 214-841-0530 or Virginia Lannen at 214-841-0532 for this Job Fair and Student Recruitment event.

CONGRATULATIONS to the 23 ninth grade students from the School of Excellence in Education's REAL class who traveled to Waco to compete in the second Governor's Symposium on Entrepreneurship. They competed against eleventh and twelfth grade students. Christine Wiedenfeld took third place in the Business Plan Presentation and received a $500 reward and Joseph Olivarri won fourth place in the Business Plan Poster contest and received a $50 award. Congratulations also to their teacher, Ms. Tiffany Vaughn.
