CONGRATULATIONS to the School of Excellence in Education Charter School who’s Engineering Club received nine ribbons in the Math and Science competition sponsored by the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering.  They will represent the city of San Antonio in the state competition in April.  Congratulations to Director Dr. Linda Britton, and her hard working students.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Katherine Anne Porter Charter School who received a $2,200 grant from the Rural Capital Area School to Careers Partnership and a $40,000 grant from the Investment Capital Fund Grant.  Congratulations to Dr. Yana Bland, Director.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Dallas Community Charter School that has raised $3.6 million in grants and gifts towards their goal of $4.5 million.  This outstanding accomplishment is possible because their Executive Director, Terry Ford, has a twenty-year track record of educational leadership in the East Dallas area.  Congratulations to Terry and her dedicated team.

TEACHER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM   The Council for Basic Education announces Charter School Teacher Summer Fellowships for all classroom faculty in public charter schools.  See attached.

CHARTER SCHOOL TEACHER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
SUMMER 2000

The Council for Basic Education (CBE) announces Charter School Teacher Fellowships for all classroom faculty in public charter schools.

Teams of 3 teachers will spend 6 weeks together in self-directed study of an academic topic of their choice - with time devoted to reading, writing, and thinking.  Team members will each receive $2,500 and their schools will receive $500 each.

Application materials may be obtained on CBE’s website, www.c-b-e.org.  Completed applications must be received at CBE in Washington, DC by Monday, May 8, 2000.  Winners will be notified on Friday, May 19 by telephone.  Share this information and apply today.

The USDE is inviting applications under the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education program (CFDA # 84.206A) for model programs to build K-12 schools' capacity to serve the needs of gifted students.  Deadline April 24.  Funds: $1 million for 6 awards.
