CURRICULUM WORKSHOPStar Spangled Skills Curriculum Resource: The Next Step Saturday, January 22, 2000, 9:00 - 3:00 Resource Center for Charter Schools 40 NE Loop 410, Suite 235 (Conference Room on the 2nd floor) San Antonio - 210-348-7890 (Free parking available on the top level of the parking garage.) Jimmie Driver, Instructor This workshop is designed to assist those individuals responsible for curriculum development at each charter. It will provide the attendee with a suggested format for producing a version of your charter's curriculum for your teachers. Due to space limitations, please register no more than two individuals from your school. Materials to bring include your Star Spangled Skills notebook, 1 empty 3-inch three ring binder per person, and any curriculum material you may want to share. Each school that attends will receive a big box of donated office supplies from several corporate donors. You must call Sara at the Resource Center, 210-348-7890, to RSVP by January 14, 2000.
GOVERNOR'S GRANTS TEAM WORKSHOPMonday, January 17, 2000, 9:30 - 4:00 George I. Sanchez Charter High School 6001 Gulf Freeway - Houston - 713-926-5464 Rita Stephan, Instructor This is the "How to Write A Winning Grant" Workshop that dozens of you requested after Rita's Roundtable presentation last fall. There will be a $20 charge for this workshop payable to the Charter School Resource Center. Please send your payment to the Resource Center by January 10, 2000.
CONGRATULATIONS to Nancy Grayson, Director of Rapoport Academy, who has been awarded two competitive grants through TEA that include a Prekindergarten Expansion Grant that provides funding for full day prekindergarten programs and an Investment Capital Fund Grant that provides funding for parent education classes.
CONGRATULATIONS to Virginia Lannen, Director of Pegasus, H.M. Motsinger, Director of Nova Charter, and Grant East, Director of Dallas CAN! for the 4.5 million federal grant to implement after school and summer programs at their charters.
CONGRATULATIONS to Gilbert Moreno and George I. Sanchez Charter for being selected a 21st Century Community Learning Center school. They will receive $122,958 from the U.S. Department of Education to create a community learning center.
Texas Language Charter School has a new website: texaslanguagecharter.org. The City of Dallas has proclaimed December 9, 1999 as Texas Language Charter School Day.
