Tenth Annual Texas Charter School Conference

Confirmed speakers for the 2006 Texas Charter School Conference:

TENTH ANNUAL TEXAS CHARTER CONFERENCE will be November 27 & 28, 2006 at the Hilton Americas in Houston. Please mail, not fax, the attached registration form(s) with your check to the Resource Center. The conference registration deadline is November 6, after which the registration fees will increase. There will be no walk-ins or registrations at the door. Please be sure to indicate whether or not you will attend the Monday evening event.

For hotel room reservations call 800-236-2905. Let the reservationists know you are with the Charter School Conference to receive the $110 conference room rate. The hotel reservation deadline is November 5. The hotel will not grant an extension and may eventually be sold out so please reserve your room as soon as possible. Early Conference Registration will begin Sunday, November 26 from 5pm to 7pm.

REGISTER & SUBMIT A PRESENTATION PROPOSAL NOW FOR THE 2007 NATIONAL CHARTER SCHOOLS CONFERENCE

The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools will host the 2007 National Charter Schools Conference from April 24 – 27 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The online Call for Presentations proposal submission system as well as conference registration and hotel reservations for the 2007 conference are now available. Please go to the conference web site at www.nationalcharterconference.org to register, make hotel reservations, and/or submit a presentation proposal. The deadline for presentation proposal submissions is October 16th. Register by October 31st for the lowest rates and you will be eligible to win 3 free hotel nights or a hot air balloon ride!

Governance Reporting Form Deadline

The 2006 Annual Governance Reporting Form for Open Enrollment Charter Schools is now available online at www.tea.state.tx.us/charter/forms/forms.html. The deadline for submitting the form to the Texas Education Agency is November 1, 2006. For questions, please contact the Division of Charter Schools at 512-463-9575.

TEA Charter School Orientation

The Division of Charter Schools at the Texas Education Agency is hosting a two-day charter school orientation on Thursday and Friday, October 5-6, 2006, in Room 1-104 of the William B. Travis Building located at 1701 N. Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78701. The program will consist of presentations by staff members from many agency divisions. Administrators of new charter schools are required to attend an orientation.  Administrators from existing charter schools who are new or who have not recently attended an orientation session are strongly encouraged to attend. Staff members are also welcome, as are ESC staff and other interested parties. There is no charge for the orientation.
