Local Wellness Policy Requirement

Federal Public Law (PL 108.265 Section 204) states that by the first day of the 2006 - 2007 school year all schools including charter schools that have federal free and reduced price lunch program, must develop a local wellness policy. The policy development must involve parents, students, representatives from the school food authority, school board, school administrators and the public. A guideline designed to help LEA’s develop a policy is available for download by visiting http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/nutrition/pdf/SNALocalWellnessPolicyGuide1.pdf.
