Primary Role and Purpose:

 

     Serve as charter attendance officer.  Provide assistance to charter personnel in understanding and

     applying required attendance laws and resolving truancy, excessive absences, and tardiness

     problems.  Operate as charter contact to parents, law enforcement agencies and court personnel.

 

Qualifications:

 

     Education:

            List XYZ Charter School requirements

 

     Skills:

  • Knowledge of state attendance laws.
  • Capable of interpreting laws, policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of operating personal computer to develop databases and do word processing.
  • Able to conduct home visits and monitor sites where truant students have been reported to the

             charter.

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Attendance Regulations

  • Determine causes of unexcused and excessive absences and tardies and impose stipulations of compulsory attendance laws.
  • Issue warnings; file complaints against students, parents or guardian in accordance with compulsory attendance laws as they apply to charters, Texas Education Code as it applies to charters and charter policy; refer to appropriate court.
  • Work with parents and students to ensure full understanding of compulsory attendance laws and charter policy.
  • Act as an agent for the charter in court hearings resulting from attendance problems.
  • Examine cases of students who may drop out; collect textbooks and school property.

Consultation

  • Consult frequently with charter staff to identify problems of tardiness, attendance and student truancy.
  • Collaborate with staff to recognize and advise students, and their parents, who are at risk of dropping out.
  • Collaborate with at-risk students in regard to attendance and tardiness, and encourage them to cooperate to improve attendance.
  • Confer with parents and arrange home visits for students with attendance and truancy problems.
  • Serve as contact and ensure communication with local law enforcement agencies and courts in the area of student truancy.

 

Administration

  • Gather, manage and file all hardcopy and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including records of all cases investigated and all reports required by the Commissioner of Education.
  • Apply and fulfill policies established by federal and state laws that apply to charter schools, Commissioner’s Rules that apply to charter schools and local charter policy in the area of student attendance.
  • Abide by all charter routines and regulations.
  • Ensure positive and constructive relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate with colleagues, students and parents in an effective manner.

 

Other

  • Administer oaths and serve legal process.
  • When necessary, transport suspended students home.
  • Ensure confidentiality.
  • Take part in professional development to enhance skills related to job assignment.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
