Primary Role and Purpose:
Ensure direct therapy is
administered to students with physical disabilities. Evaluate students and
implement therapeutic intervention to
eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere
with students’ ability to receive full
benefit from the educational program.

Education:
Valid Texas license as a physical
therapist granted by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy

administering test and measurements for evaluating physical function.

administering manual exercises and physical therapy treatments.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Therapy
- Ensure direct and
consultative services in accordance with physical therapy goals contained
in students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Evaluate achievement of
student to assess readiness for termination of physical therapy services.
- Design, construct and
adapt equipment and devices as needed for the student.
Evaluation
- Evaluate students with
physical disabilities and determine eligibility for services.
- Be active in the
Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee to aid with understanding
the assessment data, appropriate placement and goal setting for students
with physical disabilities according to the charter procedures.
- Modify or recommend
changes of the school environment to enhance the learning process for the
student.

Consultation
- Confer with charter
teachers regarding the use of specialized equipment and materials.
- Confer with charter and
outside personnel, including private therapists and other medical staff,
to meet the physical and medical needs of students.
- Ensure professional
development in the charter to help school personnel recognize students
with physical disabilities.
- Confer with individuals
who have interaction with students to enhance their work.
Student Management
- Provide effective
learning environments, which are in correspondence to the maturity level
of the student.
- Maintain student
control and enforce appropriate discipline according to the student
handbook.
Program Management
- Design and implement an
ongoing assessment of the physical therapy program and make adaptations
based on the results.
- Aid in the selection of
equipment and adaptive materials.
Administration
- Gather, manage and file
all reports, records, and other required documents.
- Abide by policies
established by federal and state law that apply to charter schools, Commissioner’s
Rules that apply to charter policy and local charter policy.
- Abide by all charter
routines and regulations.
- Communicate with
colleagues, students and parents in an effective manner.
- Participate in
professional development activities to enhance skills related to job
assignments.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
