Primary Role and Purpose:
Ensure therapy is rendered
to students with mental, physical or emotional disabilities. Evaluate
students and
ensure therapeutic intervention to maximize physical or mental functioning,
increase
independent
functioning and/or adjust to disabilities.
Qualifications:
Education:
Valid Texas license as an occupational
therapist granted by the Texas Board of Occupational
Therapy Examiners

Skills:
- Understanding of
rehabilitation procedures, activities and equipment used in occupational
Therapy.
- Capable of instructing
students and managing their behavior.
- Superior
organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Therapy
- Ensure direct and
consultative services in accordance with occupational therapy goals
contained in students’ Individual Education Plan (IEP).
- Evaluate achievement of
student to assess readiness for termination of occupational therapy
services.
- Design, construct and
adapt equipment and devices to promote maximum independence by the
student.
Evaluation
- Evaluate students with
disabilities and determine if student is eligible for services.
- Be active in the
Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to aid with the
evaluation of assessment data, appropriate placement and goals for
students according to charter policy.

Consultation
- Confer with charter
teachers and parents regarding occupational therapy.
- Ensure professional
development in the charter to help school personnel with selection and use
of adaptive equipment and understanding of occupational therapy program.
- Confer with individual
who interact with the student to enhance their work.
Student Management
- Provide effective
learning environments that are in correspondence with the maturity level
of the student.
- Maintain student
control and enforce appropriate discipline according to the student
handbook.
Program Management
- Design and implement an
ongoing assessment of the occupational therapy program and make
adaptations based on the results.
- Aid in the selection of
equipment and adaptive material.
- Ensure two-way
communication with students and parents to maintain effective
relationships with individuals and groups.
Administration
- Gather, manage and file
all reports, records and other documents required.
- Abide by policies
established by federal and state law that apply to charter schools,
Commissioner’s Rules that apply to charter schools and local charter
policy.
- Abide by all charter
routines and regulations.
- Communicate with
colleagues, students, and parents in an effective manner.
- Participate in
professional development activities to enhance skills related to job
assignment.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
