Primary Role and Purpose:

 

     Oversee and maintain the school library/media center.  Provide guidance and activities that allow

     students to develop skills in locating, evaluation, synthesizing and using information to solve

     problems.  Act as teacher, materials expert and curriculum adviser to incorporate the library/media

     center as part of the instructional programs of the charter.

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

     Instruction

  • Instruct individuals and groups on the process of locating library resources and research techniques.
  • Confer with teachers on material usage and advise on scheduling of classroom instructional materials.
  • Direct library/media center users to appropriate resources and provide staff training on availability and use of charter education resources.

 

Library Programs

  • Meet identified needs of staff and students through planned school library program.
  • Aid in compiling bibliographies and curriculum guides.
  • Maintain acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance and inventory of resources.
  • Design and implement a resource file from the community.

  • List schedules for instructional television programs and monitor use of video programs for educational purposes.
  • Develop a library/media center environment that is dedicated to effective education practices through proper maturity and interest levels of the student.
  • Seek community and parent involvement through appropriate and effective means.

 

Student Management

  • Implement discipline in compliance with charter policies and regulations.
  • Encourage positive student attitudes toward the school library.

 

Administration

  • Assess program needs to calculate budget and cost estimates.
  • Gather, manage and file all reports, records and other documents required.
  • Abide by federal and state laws that apply to charter schools, Commissioner’s Rules that apply to charter schools and charter policy in the library/media services area.
  • Plan and implement an ongoing assessment of the library/media center program and make adaptations based on the results.
  • Abide by all charter routines and regulations.

 

Communication

  • Display positive and constructive relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate with colleagues, students and parents in an effective manner.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

     Supervise clerical aides, student aides and volunteers.

 

Job Related Conditions:
